Pacific Light and Power to build $1 billion hydrogen power plant on Jurong Island by 2029

A hydrogen gas-fired power plant on Jurong Island being built by Singaporean power producer PacificLight Power will be operational by 2029.

The company said the project, which will cost about $1 billion, will be the largest and most efficient combined-cycle gas turbine facility in Singapore.

It will have a generating capacity of at least 600MW, enough to power about 864,000 four-bedroom apartments for a year. When it starts running, it can burn at least 30% hydrogen (a cleaner fuel), with the rest consisting of natural gas, to generate electricity.

Singapore plans to build at least nine hydrogen power plants by 2030.
