BMW says it has stepped up the use of hydrogen-powered tools at its manufacturing plants.
The German automaker said this includes a major development at the BMW Group’s Regensburg plant, where hydrogen will soon play a central role in production logistics.
Starting in 2026, the Regensburg plant will incorporate hydrogen-powered tractor-trailers and forklifts into its logistics operations. These vehicles will manage transport tasks in the press shop, body shop and assembly hall, ensuring efficient delivery of components to the assembly line.
This transformation is part of BMW’s iFACTORY programme to create digital and sustainable manufacturing systems. Armin Ebner, head of the BMW Group’s Regensburg plant, noted, ‘The gradual transition from electric to hydrogen power brings us closer to BMW iFACTORY, our digital and sustainable plant of the future.’
