EU drops €992 million to boost 15 hydrogen energy projects

The European Commission recently announced that it has selected 15 renewable hydrogen production projects that will boost the production of nearly 2.2 million tons of green hydrogen in the European Economic Area (EEA) over the next decade. The projects will receive a total of €992 million in EU public funding from the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS) Innovation Fund.
The projects are located in five countries, as follows:
– Spain: 8 projects, leading in both the number of winning bids and the lowest bid price, with 7 of the low-priced projects coming from Spain;
– Norway: 3 projects;
– Germany: 2 projects, one of which was the second largest in terms of total bidding capacity;
– Finland: 1 project;
– Netherlands: 1 project, the largest capacity in the tender.
The program is seen as an important initiative for the EU to promote green energy transition and build a hydrogen energy market system. This large-scale capital injection will significantly enhance Europe’s competitiveness in the global hydrogen energy industry chain, and release new growth signals for upstream and downstream industries such as related equipment manufacturing, transportation, and hydrogen storage.
