EU Launches Hydrogen Mechanism Under New Energy and Raw Materials Platform

In a strategic move to strengthen Europe’s industrial competitiveness and secure a more diversified, decarbonized supply of energy and raw materials, the European Commission has launched the Hydrogen Mechanism under the EU Energy and Raw Materials Platform.

This newly established online platform is designed to support European companies in sourcing energy and raw materials more efficiently. It will encompass a range of mechanisms covering hydrogen, critical raw materials, natural gas, and biomethane, with potential to expand to additional products in the future.

The launch marks the operational debut of the platform’s first mechanism — the Hydrogen Mechanism — which aims to accelerate the development of a market for renewable and low-carbon hydrogen and its derivatives, including ammonia, methanol, and electro-based sustainable aviation fuel (eSAF).

Stakeholders can now register and subscribe to the EU Hydrogen Mechanism via the platform. The first round of supply-demand matchmaking is scheduled for September 2025.
