Germany finances OCP green hydrogen facility in Morocco

Germany is supporting green hydrogen production in Morocco with a $32 million investment in OCP Group’s green hydrogen plant in Jorf.

The funding from Germany’s PtX development fund is aimed at supporting sustainable fertilizer production, the report said, citing German media.

The German investment will support Hydrojeel, a subsidiary of Morocco’s OCP Group.

The plant will reportedly be powered by solar and wind energy to produce green hydrogen, which will then be converted to ammonia. The Jorf Hydrogen Platform aims to produce 100,000 tons of green ammonia per year by the end of 2026, potentially preventing 300,000 tons of CO2 emissions.

The program is part of OCP’s broader Green Ammonia Initiative, which aims to attract billions of dollars in investment, the report added. The goal is to make fertilizer production more sustainable and reduce dependence on fossil-based ammonia imports from countries such as Russia and Belarus, the report added.
