Hy2B Wasserstoff to build 5-MW electrolysis plant to produce green hydrogen

Hy2B Wasserstoff GmbH is planning to build a 5-MW electrolyser in Bavaria which should start producing green hydrogen for the local mobility sector in the second half of 2023.

Munich-based engineering company Kraftanlagen Energies & Services GmbH has been mandated with the construction of the plant which will feature an alkaline electrolyser from Norwegian manufacturer NEL ASA (OSE:NEL).

The electrolyser, to be located in the municipality of Pfeffenhausen, will be powered by a nearby 10-MW solar park operated by BuergerEnergie Niederbayern eG.

The plant is expected to produce an average of 1,200 kg of green hydrogen per day which will be delivered by trucks to two filling stations in the districts of Munich and Ebersberg. The clean fuel will be used by ten hydrogen buses in the regional traffic of Munich and the excess will be supplied to other customers from the mobility and energy sectors. From 2024/25, the hydrogen technology application centre WTAZ that will be built near the electrolyser will also be supplied with green hydrogen.

Hy2B Wasserstoff is a joint initiative of Hynergy Invest GmbH, BayWa AG, Tyczka Hydrogen GmbH, the districts of Landshut and Munich as well as energy cooperatives Niederbayern eG, Isar eG and Unterhaching eG. The company was created in 2020 to build the electrolyser.
