India and Germany are joining forces on a major $1.3 billion initiative to transform Andhra Pradesh into a global hub for green hydrogen and clean ammonia exports. If all goes as planned, the state-of-the-art facility is expected to begin operations in 2029.
The project, led by India’s Juno Joule Green Energy and Germany’s Select Energy GmbH, will produce 180,000 tons of hydrogen annually, which will be converted into up to 1 million tons of green ammonia per year. All the required energy will come from renewable sources like solar and wind, using electrolysis.
To ensure the highest international standards, the entire production process will be tracked using blockchain technology and fully comply with German and EU regulations, including RFNBO certification. Strategically located at Mulapeta Port, the facility will capitalize on coastal wind resources and a growing renewable energy infrastructure. Phase one is set to begin in 2026, supplying clean hydrogen for local use, especially in fertilizer manufacturing.
This project supports India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission and Germany’s H2Global initiative, contributing to industrial decarbonization and Europe’s REPowerEU goals—marking a major step in global clean energy cooperation.
