According to The Indian Express, the Ministry of Railways is preparing to launch India’s first hydrogen-powered train after the prototype successfully cleared load testing.
The train has been developed under Indian Railways’ “Hydrogen for Heritage” program, which envisions deploying 35 hydrogen-powered trains on heritage and hill routes. Manufactured by the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai, the project is part of India’s broader push to promote green mobility and achieve net-zero targets.
With testing now complete, Indian Railways is expected to begin trial operations of the hydrogen-powered train soon on the Jind–Sonipat route in Haryana.
