Japan’s Hydrogen Energy Society Promotion Law comes into force

   

The Hydrogen Energy Society Promotion Act (‘the Act’) was enacted in May 2024 and came into effect on 23 October 2024 as the first law in Japan to regulate businesses related to hydrogen energy and its derivatives. On the same day, both METI 2 and JOGMEC 3 launched their respective web pages dedicated to the Act.

The overall objective of the Act is to facilitate the expansion of the use of low-carbon hydrogen and its derivatives. One of its objectives is to provide support for approved projects through the Price Gap Focused Support (‘CfD Scheme’) and the Hub Development Support (‘Hub Support’). (Hub Support Programme) for approved businesses.
