The Scottish government is to accelerate plans to export green hydrogen to Germany via ship, according to the Scottish newspaper The National.
Acting Energy Secretary Gillian Martin reportedly made a trade visit to Germany last week, during which she told reporters that the Scottish government initially planned to transport liquid hydrogen via ship until a pipeline could be built.
She added that the pipeline, once built, could help meet a third of Germany’s energy needs by 2030. We will produce more electricity than we can use,” Martin said. We will use the excess power to produce green hydrogen – and then supply it to Germany.” “The hydrogen will initially be transported by ship. We hope to have a pipeline from Scotland across the north of England to Germany,” she added. The proposed pipeline would terminate in Emden, in the northwestern German state of Lower Saxony, the report added.
