Hydrogen Utopia International (HTE) is seeking planning permission to build the UK’s first waste-to-hydrogen plant near Ramsgate in Kent. According to reports, if approved by Kent County Council, the facility is expected to create at least 100 full-time jobs by the end of 2027.
The proposed 10-acre (approximately 4.6-hectare) site will convert household and commercial waste into hydrogen, significantly reducing the volume of waste currently sent to landfills and incinerators.
HTE states that the plant will use a thermal treatment process to break down waste at the molecular level. The resulting syngas will then be converted into clean hydrogen, achieving zero or ultra-low emissions. The facility is also designed to be almost entirely self-sufficient in its energy use.
