Mitsubishi Electric Power, the power solutions brand of Japan’s Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI), welcomed the Prime Minister of Sarawak, Malaysia, Abang Johari Obeng, to its Takasago Hydrogen Park in Hyogo Prefecture, Japan, marking an important step in strengthening the link between Sarawak’s hydrogen vision and Mitsubishi Electric Power’s hydrogen technology.
The Takasago Hydrogen Energy Park, to be completed in 2022, reportedly has the capacity to demonstrate comprehensive hydrogen energy technologies from production to power generation and is divided into three zones based on hydrogen production, storage and utilisation functions.Validation of hydrogen combustion equipment is conducted at the T-Point 2 combined cycle power plant validation facility located in the utilisation area, which is designed to support long-term testing of new technologies.
As part of its support for Sarawak’s energy development, Mitsubishi Electric has reportedly supplied a 500 MW hydrogen gas turbine to Petronas Sarawak Sdn Bhd’s (PETROS) Miri CCGT power plant. The project, which broke ground in November 2024, is said to be designed to co-fuel with up to 30 per cent hydrogen.
